Major airports in Australia and New Zealand are showing greater resilience to the global economic downturn than their counterparts around the world. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington airports have enjoyed reasonable traffic levels as a result of new airline entry and discounting of fares to stimulate demand. But there are question marks over whether the current situation is sustainable, particularly the domestic New Zealand context, where a shakeout could be looming. [3125 words]
