
EUR1.9 billion to kick-start SESAR

Europe’s air traffic control infrastructure modernisation programme continues to gather steam, with the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) announcing EUR1.9 billion worth of contracts, and the formal addition of Airbus and Honeywell to the programme, in Jun-2009. The 16 agreements signed last month will stretch over seven years, with the European Commission committing EUR700 million to the project. A further EUR700 million will come directly from EUROCONTROL, with a commitment by the 38 EUROCONTROL Member States in May, and EUR500 million from the actual programme partners. [1003 words]
