SN Brussels falls to the march of Lufthansa. What will be the effect on BIAC

Brussels Airport has welcomed the financial participation of Lufthansa in Brussels Airlines and applauded the news that Brussels Airlines will continue to operate as an independent airline (at least for now). Lufthansa, which is one of three carriers short-listed to take a 43% stake in Austrian Airlines and has previously invested into JetBlue of the US (2007), is reported to be ‘in negotiations’ with SAS. It has quickly reached ‘preferred partner’ status for the ‘new Alitalia’ and is a major shareholder in the much sought after bmi, with its valuable slots at London Heathrow. [1042 words]
