
SriLankan Airlines takes steps to address fuel price surge

SriLankan Airlines announced it re-introduced fuel surcharges of up to USD80, effective Jul-08, as a means of fighting escalating fuel costs. The carrier, which is 51% government owned and 43.6% owned by Emirates (whose ten- year management contract of SriLankan lapsed at the start of Apr-08), defended the move, stating new measures are required if the carrier is to survive.
