Virgin America: ownership questions will not go away – but respite in a court win

Virgin America's compliance with US citizenship requirements has been a concern since Sir Richard Branson first mooted the establishment of his airline brand in the USA. It was a significant point of controversy and debate during the carrier’s certification proceeding prior to operations commencing in 2007. US Federal law requires air carriers to be US "citizens." To qualify, the outstanding voting interests of the air carrier must be at least 75% owned and effectively controlled by US citizens. [775 words]
