30-May-2012 Launch of AirAsia Japan Offers Direct Domestic Flights to Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa

AirAsia Japan, the newest low-cost carrier (LCC) based in Narita International Airport, is set to launch operations on domestic routes with daily flights to Fukuoka, Okinawa and Sapporo starting August 1, 2012.

Staying true to its tagline, 'Now Everyone Can Fly', the affiliate carrier of the world's best low cost airline is having its first awesome promotion with 10,000 seats from as low as MYR0.20 (¥5) up for grabs.

To ensure that the new airline offers you access domestically across its new destinations in Japan, AirAsia X, the long-haul low fare affiliate of AirAsia will be offering promotional fares from as low as MYR399 (¥ 14,000) one way from Kuala Lumpur to Haneda International Airport (Tokyo). Guests may opt to fly onto the AirAsia Japan new domestic network via Narita International Airport.

The promo will be from 31 May - 3 June 2012, for the travel period from 28 August 2012 to 28November 2012. This ultra-low fare is available online at www.airasia.com, via mobile at mobile.airasia.com as well as AirAsia apps for Blackberry, iPhone and Android phones.

Kazuyuki Iwakata, CEO, AirAsia Japan said, "AirAsia Japan's objective is to develop the LCC market in Japan, generating new demand with the aim of making affordable and quality travel

available to all. In less than one year since the establishment of AirAsia Japan, we are pleased to launch three domestic destinations. The 84 weekly flights are expected to help meet demand from business and leisure travellers between, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Okinawa and Tokyo."

Having already established an unmatched network especially within ASEAN, AirAsia has been actively seeking more business opportunities in the region. AirAsia sees Japan as a market with great potential, has been seeking for a partner with strong Japanese market influence to further expand its scope. AirAsia found that strength in ANA, and together established AirAsia Japan. With this new venture, it is expected to be a strong contributing factor in strengthening bilateral ties between ASEAN and Japan.

AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes said "Today marks the beginning of revolution in Japanese domestic market. With Japan's aviation market undergoing rapid transformation and developments, we are confident that we will derive excellent load factors and stimulate tourism. We always believe that in order to be successful, a strong foundation is crucial. We have worked hard in the past 10 years to ensure we have everything in place. We're proud to say that AirAsia today has the most extensive network in Asean, China, India and Australia; and we have the ability to access international visitors and provide them with a seamless journey to Japan."

AirAsia Japan, established in August 2011, is the latest affiliate in the AirAsia Group. This new Japanese network will allow AirAsia to rapidly drive growth and lower its cost base further, for its guests to continuously enjoy mind blowing low fares.

Prior to the launch of AirAsia Japan, the group was blessed with another addition to the AirAsia family; in March 2012 when Philippines' AirAsia was launched. Philippines' AirAsia launched its maiden flights from Clark to popular domestic tourist destinations of Kalibo and Davao. In April 2012, the airline added another destination, flying from Clark to Puerto Princesa. Philippines' AirAsia, which received its air operator certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in February 2012, serves the Philippines' regional and domestic air travel market.

It is also noteworthy to highlight that AirAsia X, the long-haul, low fare affiliate of AirAsia, currently operates direct seven weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo via Haneda International Airport, and four weekly flights to Osaka via Kansai International Airport; offering guests from the South East Asian region greater forward accessibility on to the AirAsia Japan new domestic sectors and vice versa.
