09-Sep-2011 China Southern is increasing its Guangzhou-Brisbane flights from three to four a week as well as adding Beijing to the flight route from 30 October 2011.

Flights will depart Brisbane Airport on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11.15am, arriving in Beijing at 11.15pm the same day.

The airline will operate its Airbus A330-300 series aircraft on the route, providing four first class and 24 business class flatbed seats, 48 premium economy and 208 economy seats.

CEO and Managing Director Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Limited (BAC), Julieanne Alroe, said with the addition of Beijing, Brisbane Airport now connects to 32 international destinations around the globe.

"China is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and one of Australia's closest neighbours, and the new direct service provides a convenient and important link to the heart of China's business, cultural and educational community.

"BAC remains committed to introducing new routes and destinations to our network by working closely with our airline partners to identify more opportunities to address market demand," Ms Alroe said.

With China Southern the only airline connecting Queensland with mainland China, Edward Wang, China Southern's General Manager Queensland, said the addition of Beijing to its network will better service the needs of the business communities in both Brisbane and Beijing.

"Since China Southern's first flight into Brisbane on 2 November 2010, there's been strong demand from business travellers going to and coming from Beijing, so the new direct service will help meet this demand.

"Furthermore, it is important for the economy of Queensland to have a direct connection with the capital of China and China Southern is pleased to be able to now provide this direct link between Brisbane and Beijing," Mr Wang said.

By nationality, China was Brisbane Airport's fastest growing international top-10 market for FY2010/11 with 23 per cent year-on-year growth, and is the airport's fourth top international market.
