07-Mar-2012 Sydney Airport welcomes the announcement by Tiger Airways Australia to establish a base at Sydney Airport from July 2012. Highlights include:

  • 38 daily flights to and from Sydney, up from the current level of 18
  • Additional 3,600 seats per day
  • Creation of 150 new jobs

Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather said, "We are delighted that Tiger Airways plans to establish a base in Sydney, which will double the number of daily flights. Low cost carriers are driving growth in aviation and Tiger Airways is leading the charge with a great product and fantastic fares.

"Tiger's resurgence has been a real boon for the travel and tourism sector and more competition means more choice for travellers, whether it be for business or leisure. Sydney is Australia's premier destination and Tiger Airways choosing Sydney Airport as a base will cement its growth plans. The new base will not only create 150 direct jobs, but also stimulate employment in the tourism and services sectors.

"Under our partnership with the NSW Government, Sydney Airport has been proud to announce two other new low cost carriers starting services to Sydney this year and Tiger's decision to set up a base in Sydney is another great result of 'Team Sydney's' proactive approach.
