Airports of Thailand approve Chiang Rai Airport master plan, includes USD178m expansion project

Airports of Thailand approved (19-Aug-2016) Chiang Rai Airport's master plan which includes a THB6.2 billion (USD178.6 million) expansion project. Works under the three-phase project includes:

  • Phase one (2016-2021): Estimated cost of THB3.7 billion (USD106.5 million) to expand aircraft parking area towards the south side, expand north side of terminal and improve access roads among other works. This phase is expected to raise capacity to 3 million passengers p/a, 16 aircraft movement per hour and 10 aircraft parking bays;
  • Phase two (2021-2025): Estimated cost of THB600 million (USD17 million) to expand south side of terminal, construct additional aircraft parking bays and construction of ground handling facilities. This phase is expected to raise capacity to 3.3 million passengers p/a, 16 aircraft movements per hour and 12 aircraft parking bays;
  • Phase three (2026-2030): Estimated cost of THB1.9 billion (USD54 million) to construct a parallel taxiway, expand aircraft parking area and improve terminal facilities.
