20-Aug-2009 Qantas today welcomed the announcement by the Australian and New Zealand Governments regarding improvements to aviation passenger facilitation between the two countries.Qantas Group Executive Government and Corporate Affairs, Mr David Epstein, said changes to existing arrangements would provide some economic benefits through increased business and leisure travel and tourism.

"Following the lead initially taken by Prime Minister Key of New Zealand, this first step is welcomed by the Qantas Group," Mr Epstein said. "We now encourage the Australian and New Zealand authorities to make further progress on developing innovative ways to make it easier to travel between the two countries and lower the cost of border services for passengers. "This is the only way we can grow the Australia-New Zealand passenger market in the longer term and ensure travellers are able to enjoy the benefits of lower government charges as well as the competitive airfares already on offer. "The ultimate goal should be to enable travel between domestic terminals and from more airports on both sides of the Tasman."
