Air Berlin increases revenue and improves capacity utilization

07-Sep-2009 In August 2009, Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, was able to increase revenue per available seat kilometer by 12 percent to 6.21 Eurocents (08/2009: 5.55 Eurocents).

Fleet capacity utilization improved from 82.9 to 84 percent, i.e. an increase of 1.1 percentage points. Due to the com-pany's targeted 5-percent capacity reduction, the number of passengers transported decreased from 2,849,783 in August 2008 to 2,743,785 in August 2009 (-3.7 percent).

In the first eight months of 2009, Air Berlin welcomed a total of 18,269,632 passengers on board, i.e. 5.1 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2008: 19,252,837). Accumulated capacity decreased by 3.3 percent in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year. Fleet capacity utilization decreased by 1.5 percentage points, namely from 78.8 to 77.3 percent.
