24-Sep-2009 New low-cost airline uses airline operations suite from Lufthansa Systems.

Lufthansa Systems today announced that flydubai, Dubai's first low cost airline, has signed a five-year agreement for a comprehensive package of airline operations IT solutions. Right from the start of its operations, the new carrier optimizes its flight planning and dispatch processes with Lido/Flight, formerly known as Lido OC. It also uses Lufthansa Systems' navigation solutions Lido FMS and Lido RouteManual. To begin with flydubai uses paper versions of the Lido RouteManual navigation charts before migrating to Lufthansa Systems' visually identical interactive electronic charts, Lido eRouteManual.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai said: "flydubai is constantly looking for ways to make travel a little less complex, a little less stressful and a little less expensive. As this business model requires highly efficient processes, we selected IT solutions from Lufthansa Systems to optimize our flight planning and reduce operating costs. In addition, with Lido RouteManual we have completed the first step on the way to adopting a paperless cockpit, which will also result in further cost reductions."

The dispatch solution Lido/Flight is one of the most advanced flight planning systems on the market. Lido/Flight calculates optimal flight routes based on a number of different factors and can reduce fuel costs by up to five percent. The navigation charts of the Lido RouteManual provide cockpit crews with the most up-to-date geographical and aeronautical information. The layout, colors and symbols are identical in the paper-based and electronic navigation charts, which will make it easier for pilots to switch to the Lido eRouteManual. As soon as flydubai introduces the electronic version, it will avoid the time-consuming printing and distribution of updated paper charts.

"We are proud to add flydubai to our growing customer base and further develop our position in the Middle East. The integrated use of our airline operations solutions ensures precise, efficient flight operations. Airlines worldwide value the high quality and economic benefit provided by the innovative IT solutions from Lufthansa Systems," said Stefan Auerbach, Senior Vice President Sales EMEA at Lufthansa Systems.

flydubai was founded in March 2008 by the government of Dubai. The airline started scheduled flights in June 2009 and now operates flights to six destinations, Beirut in Lebanon, Amman in Jordan, Alexandria in Egypt, Damascus and Aleppo in Syria and Djibouti in East Africa.
