29-Oct-2009 Melbourne Airport welcomes Tiger’s announcement to increase their low cost services from their Melbourne base, in a move that will create 250,000 extra seats in and out of the state each year.

Destinations from Melbourne to receive an increase in Tiger flights early next year are Sunshine Coast (extra weekly), Hobart (extra daily), Gold Coast (extra 6 weekly) and Adelaide (extra 3 weekly).

Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said "This is a win for passengers, the increased services to these four destinations will boost the options on offer to Victorians and those travelling to our state, a plus for both passengers and the local economy."

This comes on the back of Tiger's recent successes with their launch of services on the Melbourne - Sydney route and the introduction of their seventh aircraft to the fleet this month.

"Melbourne Airport was awarded the Low Cost Airport of the Year award by Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation yesterday, in recognition of the airport's commitment to cater to a range of pricing levels whilst maintaining quality service. Tiger's announcement is another reminder of the strength of the Melbourne market, and we will continue to work hard with our airlines to continue to build services in and out of the State" he said.
