Avinor: 19 million air passengers in the first half year

13-Jul-2010 A total of 3,870,542 passengers travelled to or from one of Avinor’s airports during the course of June.

This is an increase of 3.9 percent compared to June last year. International traffic increased most, by 10.1 per cent compared with June last year. In all, almost 19 million passengers have travelled to and from Avinor's airports during the first half of 2010.

The growth in the number of domestic passengers in June was 0.2 per cent compared with the same month last year. It was domestic traffic that was hardest hit by the security staff strike in June. In total, the first half of 2010 showed a decline in domestic traffic of 2 per cent compared with the first half of 2009, while international traffic rose by 4.7 per cent. In total, the number of passengers travelling to and from Avinor's airports increased by 0.2 per cent compared with the first half of last year, in spite of the extreme traffic disturbances caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Oslo Airport Gardermoen showed a total growth in passengers of 5.9 per cent in June, with international traffic showing the highest growth at 9.1 per cent compared with June last year. The other large airports recorded a combined growth of just under 2 per cent.

The strike by security staff in June had a major impact on traffic figures for the medium sized airports that were affected by the conflict, but Ålesund Airport Vigra was able to record growth of 13.7 per cent.

The number of aircraft movements increased by 2.3 per cent in June, compared with the same month last year. The greatest growth was in international aircraft movements, at 7.2 per cent.
