15-Dec-2010 Gatwick Airport today welcomed further growth from easyJet – its largest customer – with the introduction of six new routes. Passengers will have the choice to fly out of Gatwick on an easyJet flight to Amman (Jordan) – a first for Gatwick -, Izmir (Turkey), Verona and Bologna (Italy), Seville (Spain), and Aberdeen (Scotland).

When easyJet operates flights to Amman - the largest city in Jordan - from June next year it will be the first time this destination has been served from Gatwick, opening up more destinations for passengers to choose from.

easyJet's new route to and from Aberdeen, Scotland's third largest city, will create better links between Aberdeen and London, enabling passengers from north east Scotland to fly into Gatwick to access over 200 global destinations.

easyJet will begin to operate flights to these six new destinations between March and June 2011.

Guy Stephenson, Gatwick Airport's Commercial Director said: "It is welcome news that easyJet has chosen to grow at Gatwick, adding six more routes to its long list of popular destinations already served by the airport. In the past year alone we have seen an additional one million passengers fly out of Gatwick on easyJet flights and these new routes could see annual passenger volumes grow by a further 3.2%.

"easyJet is creating more choice for its passengers with the introduction of 18 new Gatwick routes this year. For our part, we are focused on creating a better experience for passengers through our £1 billion investment programme. Delivering great service - every day - and working with airlines to open up more destinations will make Gatwick a top choice for passengers."

Under new ownership, Gatwick is targeting growth to at least 40 million passengers per year by 2018 - an increase of 20% from its current 32.5 million passengers per year. easyJet's new routes will help Gatwick on its journey to achieve that passenger growth target. When easyJet operates its new services next year, annual passenger volumes are expected to increase by 355,000.
