Berlin Airports: Weather conditions likely to cause more delays and cancellations before Christmas

20-Dec-2010 Berlin Airports advises passengers that due to the continuation of the adverse weather conditions, delays and cancellations are very likely to occur and that air travel will be disrupted until Christmas.

Passengers are advised to contact their airline or tour operator before leaving for the airport to enquire whether their flight has been affected by the snow and ice.

Berlin Airports is also providing up-to-date information about the situation at Tegel and Schoenefeld Airports on the company website www.berlin-airport.de and on its telephone helpline: 0180 5000 186.

At www.berlin-airport.de passengers can sign up for the text messaging service 'SMS & fly' and have the latest flight information sent direct to their mobile phone or email account. This easy-to-use service is free of charge.

For today, Monday 20 December 2010 (1PM), Berlin Airports expects around 130 flights to be cancelled. The winter services crews are working around the clock to keep Berlin's two airports clear of snow and ice. Due to the winter weather and chaotic conditions at many other airports, around 200 flights were cancelled between Friday and Sunday.

With snowfalls forecast to continue, the BBI Infotower will remain closed on Monday, 20 December, and Tuesday, 21 December. airportworld bbi, the Berlin Airports visitor centre, is open today and tomorrow until 6PM. All booked construction site tours will take place as scheduled. The meeting place for these tours is the airportworld bbi. The airportworld bbi will remain closed from 24 December until 2 January 2011, inclusive. The BBI Infotower is closed throughout the holidays (24-26 December 2010 and 31 December 2010 - 1 January 2011). The Tower is open from 10AM until 4PM from 27-30 December 2010. Berlin Airports apologises for any inconvenience caused by the severe weather conditions.
