Destatis: Number of air passengers in Germany up by 5.0% in 2010

10-Feb-2011 As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the 2009 plunge in the number of air passengers could be compensated in 2010: the number of passengers arriving on and departing from German airports amounted to 166.0 million (+5.0% compared with 2009). With that increase the level of 2008 (165.6 million) could be reached after a decrease of 4.5% in 2009.

With 108.2 million passengers, transport to and from European destinations almost reached its pre-crisis level (108.5 million) in 2010. Compared with 2009, the number of passengers rose by 5.1%.

Intercontinental traffic (33.7 million) recorded a plus of 7.3%. For the first time since data collection on air-traffic started, the number of passengers travelling to or from Asian airports (13.8 million) exceeded the corresponding value for America (13.5 million).

Compared with the preceding year the passenger growth-rates for Asia amounted to +10.8%, those for America to +4.3% and those for Africa to +6.6%.
