Ryanair Barcelona Girona flights will not be disrupted by UGT strikes

Direct News Source

14-Jun-2011 Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (14th June) announced that it will not allow its passengers to be blackmailed by the UGT Union who have confirmed a strike at Barcelona Girona on the 15th June, despite the importance of summer tourists to the local economy and local jobs.

Ryanair will operate a full schedule of flights to/from Barcelona Girona Airport even if selfish strike action is taken by the UGT Union. Ryanair will ask all passengers departing from Barcelona Girona on 15th June to use Ryanair's web check-in service and travel with carry on luggage only in order to ensure their travel plans are not cancelled due to unjustified strike action. Passengers who wish to travel with checked in luggage will be able to switch to later flights. Passengers intending to travel from Barcelona Girona between the 17th and 20th June should check www.ryanair.com on whether checked luggage will be accepted.

Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said:

"Ryanair will not allow the UGT Union to blackmail passengers during the important, busy summer season. This strike comes at a time of unprecedented unemployment and UGT members, like everyone else in the tourism industry, should be doing their best to promote and encourage air travel, not disrupt it.

It is irresponsible of UGT to hold passengers to ransom and jeopardise local jobs. We will ask passengers to check-in online and travel with carry on luggage only to try to avoid delays and cancellations and prove to the selfish unions that that we will not allow Ryanair's passengers to be held to ransom by them."
