Continental Airlines operates its first biofuel flight

Continental Airlines conducted the first biofuel powered commercial flight in North America on 07-Jan-09. The demonstration flight was conducted with a B737-800 equipped with CFM International CFM56-7B engines, using a 50:50 jet fuel/biofuel mix to power the Number 2 engine, with the drop-in biofuel component blended from algae and jatropha. Boeing, GE Aviation/CFM International and Honeywell's UOP were partners for the test flight, with fuel supplied by Sapphire Energy and Terasol Energy.
