Royal Jordanian reports net loss in 3Q2011

Royal Jordanian Airlines revenue up 8% – financial highlights for three months ended 30-Sep-2011:

• Revenue: USD309.7 million, +8.2% year-on-year;
  • Passenger: USD213.5 million, +5.1%;
  • Cargo: USD14.1 million, -4.9%;
  • Excess baggage: USD2.8 million, -17.3%;
• Cost of sales: USD286.9 million, +19.9%;
• Gross profit: USD22.8 million, -51.3%;
• Net profit (loss): (USD4.2 million), compared to a profit of USD29.4 million in p-c-p;
• Total assets: USD537.7 million, -1.1% when compared to period ended 31-Dec-2010;
• Cash and bank balances: USD60.9 million, -3.7% when compared to period ended 31-Dec-2010;

  In spite of high oil prices and a Europe-wide economic recession Ryanair further distanced itself from its full service peers and reported a remarkable 25% increase in net profit for FY2011/12 to a record EUR503 million. Air France-KLM’s operating margin was negative in FY2011 while Lufthansa Group’s adjusted operating margin came in a 3% and IAG’s operating margin also reached a meagre 3%.
