US Airways expands Washington DC service
US Airways confirmed (03-Jan-2012) it will commence service to 11 new destinations and expand operations to three existing destinations from Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport following the closing of its slot transaction agreement with Delta Air Lines. Eight of the 11 new destinations that the carrier will serve currently have no service to the airport. The new services are the next step in US Airways' plan to focus on its core service areas of Washington DC, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Charlotte. In the first phase of its expansion at Washington, the carrier will add the following new services from 25-Mar-2012:
- Daily service to Birmingham, Fayetteville, Islip, Little Rock, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tallahassee and Ft. Walton Beach. These destinations currently have no existing service from Reagan National;
- New service will also be added to Memphis, Omaha, and Ottawa. These communities are currently served by other carriers from Reagan National;
- Daily services will be added to Bangor, Maine and Savannah, which US Airways currently serves as weekend operations;
