Air One is an Italian airline with its main base at Milan Malpensa Airport and a secondary base at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Air One has been taken over by Compagnia Aerea Italiana, which also owns Alitalia. Since 2009, Air One has been incorporated into the Alitalia airline company, however the two airlines still operate independently, with Air One targeted at the lower-cost and leisure segment. With its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, Air One operates domestic and regional services to destinations throughout Italy, the Mediterranean and north Africa.

Alitalia narrows losses amid tough conditions
Alitalia’s restructuring continued throughout 1HY2011 amid difficult trading conditions as conflict spread throughout key markets and fuel prices spiked. But the airline’s cost reduction measures outweighed the costs associated with the disruptions and oil prices, with the Italian flag carrier narrowing its losses from the same period in 2010.
Losses narrowed, but work continues at born-again Alitalia
Italian national carrier Alitalia posted an improved set of full-year 2010 results on the back of recovering economic conditions and expansion into new markets. The re-born carrier saw an increase in passenger volumes and a greater increase in revenue as it continued restructuring and integrating key business units under the Compagnia Aerea Italiana (CAI) umbrella. There remains, however, much work to do at the airline.
European airlines report single-digit traffic growth in 2010; profits remain weak
European airlines reported single-digit growth last year - a welcome improvement from 2009's depressed level - but 2010 was a lacklustre year overall. Full year data has been released by the Association of European Airlines (AEA), the European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) and EUROCONTROL. As noted by EUROCONTROL, growth across the continent last year was driven mainly by LCCs.
Lufthansa Italia consolidates its position at Milan Malpensa
Lufthansa Italia this month announced plans to launch frequent (up to daily) services from Milan’s Malpensa Airport to Catania (Sicily) and Prague from 01-Nov-2010, using A319s. These are not easy routes on which to win business with considerably more offered on the Catania route from Alitalia’s Air One subsidiary, Windjet and easyJet, and to Prague from CSA and easyJet. Less than two years after Lufthansa’s interest in taking over the ailing Alitalia fizzled out when Air France purchased a stake, prompting Lufthansa to set up its own new brand, Lufthansa Italia, at Milan, what are the prospects now for Lufthansa’s first new airline that it had set up in a foreign market?
Ryanair looks to Italy for growth, Alitalia to transform Air One into an LCC
Europe’s leading LCC, Ryanair, looks set to continue its expansion in Italy as LCC capacity share (a good indicator of market share) growth generally in Europe has tailed off during the last three years. Alitalia has meanwhile announced it is considering transforming Air One, the local rival it merged with in Dec-2008, into an LCC, in response to intense competition.
Airbus, Italy's Air One to sign long-range airplane supply deal Wednesday
Milan (Thomson Financial) - EADS unit Airbus and Italy's Air One airline will on Wednesday sign an agreement for Airbus to supply long-range airplanes to the expanding Italian carrier, said Air One officials.
