Miyazaki-based LCC Skynet Asia Airways was rebranded as Solaseed Air on 01-Jul-2011, coinciding with the delivery of its first Boeing B737-800 aircraft from AWAS. The exercise, designed to increase the carrier’s brand in the domestic Japanese market, was announced in May-2011.
Japan crisis: Travellers urged to leave Tokyo, air fares spike, flights cut. 71 airlines hit
For travellers and local residents, the situation in Tokyo is deteriorating amid rolling power cuts, infrastructure problems and ongoing aftershocks, while rising concerns over the Fukushima nuclear plant has prompted several governments around the world to advise its residents to avoid travelling to Tokyo or leave the city/country entirely.
Japan’s forgotten airlines: the Japanese LCC segment
Japan’s two major airlines – Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways – have featured prominently in the news of late, but very little is known about Japan’s low cost carriers, despite five LCCs operating in the market for most of last decade. Japan aviation policy outlook: JAL bailout, Narita privatisation, open skies. Where next?
On Sunday, Japan elected a new Democratic Party (DPJ) government in a landslide, overturning the longstanding Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This raises a number of issues about key aviation policies that the outgoing administration had set in motion and about the approach a new government, keen to shake off years of LDP leadership, might take.
Skynet Asia Airways reports second consecutive net profit, Skymark focuses on expansion
Japanese LCC, Skynet Asia, reported a 1.4% year-on-year revenue increase for the 12 months ended 31-Mar-09 (FY2008/09) to USD235.1 million. The carrier reported an operating profit of USD1.5 million, which was down 61.9% year-on-year, as operating costs increased 2.5% to USD233.6 million for the period. Skynet cites increased fuel and maintenance costs as key reasons behind the increase in operating costs.
