Officially the Republic of Burundi, this is a country in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa. This country is serviced by a number of airlines including Air Burundi, which is the state owned national airline. Brussels Airlines, Kenya Airways as well as Turkish Airlines also provide regular flights to Brussels, Nairobi and Istanbul.

Aviation within Burundi is small with Air Burundi being the only native carrier with a fleet size of two aircraft. Access to Burundi is predominantly via Bujumbura International Airlines (BJM) located in the capital city of Bujumbura is the busiest airport in Burundi. Other airports in the country are Gitega Airport and Kirundo Airport.

South African Airways continues push into Central Africa

Alongside the launch last week of non-stop service to Beijing, South African Airways (SAA) has been working on improving its connections in Africa, and has recently launched service to three Central African destinations: Pointe Noire in the Republic of the Congo, Kigali in Rwanda and Bujumbura in Burundi. This follows expansion last year into Ndola, Zambia.
