‘Merchant airport’ at Karaikal given clearance

India's Ministry of Civil Aviation has given in-principle clearance for a private merchant airport for international and domestic operations, in Karaikal. The project is awaiting financial closure with the project works slated to commence in 2012. The project by Karaikal Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Super Airport Infrastructure Private Limited, has been proposed with 100% private ownership for public use. [838 words]
