Thai Airways, which experienced a 20% plunge in passenger demand in Sep-08, has slashed its fuel surcharges by 30% (on top of a similar reduction last month), as part of moves to restore load factors and trigger demand for travel to Thailand.

The airline noted it has joined together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and other tourism sector participants to carry out a "massive advertising and publicity campaign", to demonstrate that Thailand "continues to be a superlative travel destination". The airline and tourism interests not only have to counter the effects of the global economic slowdown, but also to rebuild confidence in a traveling public wary of ongoing political turmoil in Thailand.
