26-Oct-2011 "Alitalia Board of Directors - 'Compagnia Aerea Italiana SpA' , chaired by Roberto Colaninno, met today in Rome, to discuss the results as at September 30, 2011, of the consolidated Group and illustrated by CEO Rocco Sabelli.

In the third quarter, the Alitalia Group carried 7.6 million passengers, an increase of 7.3% over the same period of 2010. The load factor of the aircraft was approximately 77.5% (+ 1.6 pp).

Revenues for the period amounted to 1,080 million Euros reflecting a growth of 12% when compared to 2010.

A positive economic trend was registered for the trimester, with net income of + 69 million Euros (+30 million Euros over the same period 2010) and an operating profit of 90 million Euros (+34 million Euros).

During January-September, the net loss suffered has been reduced to -25 million Euros( -125 million Euros in 2010) and an operating profit of 21 million Euros, positive for the first time in 9 months.

This result is even more significant when compared to 2010, considering that the overall impact of higher costs and the crisis in North Africa and Japan has been valued around 250 million Euros; especially fuel costs (+ 220 million Euros approximately) increased by more than 40%, with an average value of 110 US dollars per barrel (78 US dollars a barrel in 2010).

The trend in the period January to September highlights the following progress over the same period of 2010.

Despite the impact of the crisis on North African markets, passenger growth was detected in the international segment (+9.4%) in the first nine months.

When compared to the same period, Alitalia and Air One passengers' growth on some of the main Italian airports was: Milan-Linate +7.7%, Venice +7.0%, Milan-Malpensa +6.5%, Catania +5.9% and Turin + 5.5%..

Thanks to the significant increase in destinations provided (including 5 new international routes), Air One Smart Carrier carried more than 1 million passengers (+47%) from the Milan-Malpensa and Pisa during these nine months .

From an operational perspective, Alitalia has made further progress in service levels. During this period, flights were regular at 99.8% and punctual at 85.8%, having increased by 5 points over the same period of 2010.

having a look at the fourth trimester, one can notice a sharp slowdown in business/high-yield demand - mainly due to an overall unstable financial and economic market - as well as the persistence of high fuel costs.

The Board reviewed and approved the updated economic forecasts for the 2012-2015 financial period as well. The new Plan confirms the original strategic plan, providing a major expansion of the international network (including new territories covered by AirOne), more intercontinental destinations served and the enhancement of the long-haul fleet of the company".
