Copenhagen Airport: Traffic Statistics June 2012

Direct News Source

11-Jul-2012 Busy summer season at CPH Despite refurbishments and the busiest June ever with a record 2,223,862 passengers, so far the summer season has progressed very smoothly, not least on June 29 - the busiest travel day ever with a total of 86.343 passengers passing through the airport.

High season has arrived. During 18 days over the summer, more than 80,000 passengers are expected to pass through Copenhagen Airport daily, sending this month's traffic figures sky high: a total of 2,223,862 passengers passed through the terminals in June, the highest number ever.

"All terminals are packed with travelers and very busy this summer, but we're thoroughly prepared. On the year's peak travel day, 29 June, when 86.343 passengers passed through the terminals, we were able to keep the maximum wait at the security check to just nine minutes. That is a world-class performance," said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales & Marketing for Copenhagen Airport.

"The airport will not be any less busy in the future, as we expect passenger numbers to continue to rise in the coming years. To accommodate this, we have begun an extension and refurbishment of the airport in order to create more room for passengers and airlines", explained Carsten Nørland.

The number of transfer passengers and international passengers continues to rise, while factors such as the bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling caused a 25.8% drop in domestic passenger numbers compared with June 2011.

The traffic figures are also good news for the charter industry, which saw a 2.9% improvement over June 2011. The improvement is likely the result of a combination of poor weather and an improved financial situation for many families.
