Garuda books IDR 725 billion income current period for Jan – Nov-2011

23-Dec-2011 PT Garuda Indonesia managed to book "unconsolidated revenue" IDR 22,29 trillion, and book to manage an income current period of IDR 725 billion during January - November 2011. Revenue-wise, Garuda experiences a 41,9 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year's IDR 16,19 trillion. Meanwhile, income current period increased by 124 percent compared to last year's IDR 323 billion. Since launching the Quantum Leap program, Garuda Indonesia has introduced various efficiency measures and expansion in the company's operations which will see the airline progressing confidently till 2015.

The "Quantum Leap" program plays a strategic role in Garuda's future development, particularly in preparing the foundation for the airline's continued growth in a highly competitive and challenging business environment.

Since Q1/2011, Garuda Indonesia has displayed consistent progress in its performance - showing significant improvements in various both the company's financial and operational performances. From January till November 2011, Garuda Indonesia transported 15.45 million passengers or an increase of 36,4 percent compared to last year's 11.32 million passengers in the same period. Availability seat kilometer/ASK also increased by 26 percent, from 23.54 billion seat kilometer in 2010 to 29.67 billion. As for passenger "yield", the numbers rose by 13 percent, from USC 8,5 in the January till November period of 2010 to this year's USC 9.6 in the same period.

From January till November 2011, Garuda Indonesia's flight frequency (domestic and international) also rose by 25.51 percent, into 118.009 from 94.022 flights during the same the previous year.

In terms of Seat Load Factor/SLF, from January till November 2011, Garuda Indonesia also managed to improve performance by showing an increase of 5.51 percent, from the 71.34 percent achieved in 2010 to 75.27 percent. Aircraft utilization increased 1:17 minutes, from 9:22 hours in 2010 to 10:42 hours this year. The airline's On Time Performance also rose to 85 percent from last year's 79.40 percent.

From January to September 2011, Garuda Indonesia also managed to increase its market share in the domestic market by 5 percent, to 28.3 percent from 23.7 percent achieved last year in the same period. The market in domestic air passengers from January till November 2011 grew by 16 percent, however Garuda Indonesia's passenger volume during that period increased significantly by 36 percent, higher than the average 9 percent enjoyed by other airlines.

Meanwhile, from January till September 2011, international passenger volume grew by 12 percent, and Garuda Indonesia's market experienced a 29.5 percent growth, higher than the 8 percent reached by other airlines.

Garuda's recent achievements are significant in that it was achieved at a time when fuel prices were still relatively high, at 0.90 USC/L which is 36 percent higher than last year which was 0.66 USC/L, and conducive global economic situation.

Fleet expansion, new flight services and increased frequency

Meanwhile, as the company continues to move forward and expand its fleet, in 2011 Garuda saw the arrival of eleven new aircraft 11 consisting of two A330-200s and nine B737-800 Next Generations. In 2012, Garuda Indonesia will further welcome twenty aircraft consisting of four B737-800NGs, two A330-200s and five Sub-100 seaters, as well as nine A320s for Citilink. By 2012, Garuda Indonesia Group will operate a total of 105 aircraft, comprising 88 in the Garuda Indonesia fleet and 20 in Citilink's fleet. In 2012, Garuda's fleet will be a lot younger with aircraft aged 5,7 on average, where as in 2011 planes were averagely aged 6,4 years old.

In February 2012, Garuda Indonesia will launch three international services, namely: Jakarta - Taipei using B737-800NG (in May 2012), Denpasar - Haneda (Tokyo) using A330-200 (in April 2012) and Denpasar - Singapore - New Delhi using B737-800NG (in 3Q2012). As the domestic market continues to strengthen and demands increase on regional routes, Garuda Indonesia adds more frequency on several of its domestic and regional services, among others: Jakarta - Pekanbaru from 5 flights to 6 flights per day, Jakarta - Batam from 4 times to 5 flights daily, and Jakarta - Kuala Lumpur from twice to three times every day.

In Q32012, Garuda Indonesia will allocate Sub-100 seaters in several of its hubs, namely Makassar, to serve the following routes: Makassar - Singapore, Makassar - Ternate, Makassar - Balikpapan - Yogyakarta, Makassar - Surabaya and Makassar - Ambon.

In addition to Makassar, the Sub-100 seaters aircraft will also be operated in the Medan hub to serve the Medan - Penang, Medan - Batam, Medan - Palembang, Medan - Surabaya (direct flight), and Medan - Batam - Pekanbaru flight routes; and in the Denpasar hub to serve the Denpasar - Ampenan, Denpasar - Makassar and Denpasar - Balikpapan flight routes.

In line with the fleet and human capital developments being carried out, on December 16, 2011, Garuda Indonesia launched operations of two flight simulators, the Airbus 330-200 and Boeing 737-800 NG simulators, and signed an agreement with GE for cooperation on human capital development.

Currently, Garuda Indonesia employees around 1000 pilots (most are A 330 and Boeing 737-800 NG pilots), and plans to recruit as many as 400 new pilots to accommodate the airline's expanding fleet until 2015. Through the "Quantum Leap" program, Garuda Indonesia will operate as many as 154 aircraft by 2015.
