Jetstar Japan receives green light

• MLIT approves Jetstar Japan's operating systems and processes
• Fares to go on sale within weeks
• First flight on track for 3 July

Jetstar has been given the green light by Japan's regulator - the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) - with Jetstar Japan receiving its Air Operators' Certificate today.

The Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) signifies approval of Jetstar's operating policies and procedures to deliver domestic flights in Japan. It includes the airline's approach to cabin services, ground operations, engineering, safety and customer service.

CEO of Jetstar Japan, Ms Miyuki Suzuki, welcomed the AOC and encouraged the travelling public to get ready for special fares that will be on sale soon.

"This approval means we're on track to start flying five months ahead of schedule, making it easier for people in Tokyo, Okinawa, Osaka, Sapporo and Fukuoka to connect," said Ms Suzuki.

"Travellers can be confident that as well as our operational strengths around safety and service, Jetstar will offer the best fares through our unique Price Beat Guarantee."

Jetstar is now preparing for proving flights, expected to take place during May, before its first commercial services on 3 July.

CEO of the Jetstar Group, Mr Bruce Buchanan, said receiving the AOC was testament to the strength of the local team built in Japan as well of the broader Jetstar Group.

"Delivering our innovative model over the last five years in Japan through long haul services has given us a head start in preparing for our first domestic flights."
