LOT Polish Airlines CEO Announces B-787 Dreamliner Coming to Chicago and a New All Cargo Flight

28-Mar-2012 LOT Polish Airlines CEO Marcin Pirog announced today at a press briefing held in Chicago that the airline will operate the B-787 Dreamliner on the Chicago Warsaw route beginning in January 2013. It also began an all cargo flight between Chicago and Katowice, Poland in mid-Feb.

As part of the introduction of the B-787 Dreamliner, LOT will implement a new aircraft interior design, new inflight menus, new selection of beverages, new on-board equipment, new toys for children and other amenities in April.

The new coherent image will be modern and trendy yet an ethnic design inspired by tradition and famous symbols of Poland.

According to Pirog, "Chicago was selected for the all cargo service because it's the top destination where cargo is transported to and from Poland. Nearly 70 percent of air freight from Poland to Chicago is transported by LOT. The cargo flight is operated as a wet lease with Cargo Jet twice a week with a B-767-200."

At the press briefing, Deputy Commissioner for Chicago's Department of Aviation Michael Boland congratulated LOT Polish Airlines on its plans to introduce the B-787 Dreamliner into its fleet and its new cargo service at O'Hare International Airport.

"We are happy to assist LOT in its efforts to grow its cargo business in Chicago," said Boland.

This is the first trip to the U.S. by Pirog since becoming LOT's CEO and he selected Chicago because it has the largest Polish population outside of Poland.

From Chicago, LOT currently operates seven flights per week to Warsaw with B-767-300 aircraft and will increase to nine flights come June.
