AirAsia Group aircraft movements increased by 8.4% while other international airlines aircraft movements increased by 12.3%. The decrease in the number of domestic passengers was mainly due to the termination of operations by Firefly to KLIA, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. There was not an equivalent replacement of capacity for the terminated flights.

Aircraft movements overall was down by 0.9% in April 2012 against April 2011. International movements registered a growth of 3.6% while domestic movements declined by 3.4%. The reduction in domestic movements was mainly due to the low domestic movements at MASB airports especially at Sabah and Sarawak airports.

Cargo movements overall declined by 0.7%. Cargo movements at KLIA increased by 3.4% while at MASB airports there was a 11.6% decline. The low cargo volume carried by Transmile Air in particular had contributed to the 7.3% reduction for domestic cargo at MASB airports.

Despite the lower growth in April, year-on-year cumulative passenger movements up to April remains in line with the projected levels. Foreign airlines have shown new vigour in contributing to the additional passengers.
