Malaysia Airlines Announces Senior management Appointments And Management Structure Of New Short Hau

31-Jan-2012 Malaysia Airlines today announced two appointments to its senior management team and the management structure of its new short haul airline that will take to the skies by the second quarter this year.

Chief Executive Officer of MAE

Azhari Mohd Dahlan, a highly experienced engineering professional with a sound knowledge of the aviation industry, joins MAS Aerospace Engineering (MAE) as Chief Executive Officer effective 1 February 2012. He re-joins the Malaysia Airlines Group (previous career was from 1981 - 1995) following his earlier stints in AirAsia Berhad and Transmile Engineering.

Azhari has a proven track record for enhancing efficiency, implementing continuous cost saving initiatives and compliance controls, as well as increasing quality standards at Engineering outfits he has served for the past 30 years. His most recent position was Regional Head, Engineering of AirAsia Berhad, a role he held from 2005 till 2011.

New Head of Human Capital

The current Head of Human Capital, Raja Azura Raja Mahayuddin, will be leaving Malaysia Airlines by the middle of February 2012. She will be succeeded by Puan Zahrah Zaid, who will take on the position of Executive Vice President of Human Capital effective 8 February 2012.

Zahrah's 20-year career in Human Resource spans Asia Pacific and Europe, in Sime Darby, British American Tobacco and Danone Group (2000 - 2012). Her most recent position was Director, Learning & Development Asia Pacific at Danone Asia Pte Ltd.

In welcoming the above appointments, Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Encik Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, "We look forward to Azhari's proven visionary and strategic leadership capabilities to bring MAE to greater heights by developing and translating strategies into maximum results. Likewise, Puan Zaharah is tasked to set new benchmarks for Malaysia Airlines' Human Capital to energise our whole workforce towards higher levels of accomplishment as we implement our Business Plan".

Short Haul Airline Organisation Structure Unveiled

Malaysia Airlines also announced the organisation structure of its new unit to manage the short haul airline operations outlined in its Business Plan revealed in December 2011. Described as one of the game-changers, the new airline will operate the entire narrow-body fleet and short haul routes of Malaysia Airlines, as well as the Firefly ATR turboprop business. The working target is to have the short haul operation launched by second quarter 2012.

The new airline will be led by Mohammed Rashdan Yusof as Chief Executive Officer, Short Haul while overall operations will be managed by Ignatius Ong Ming Choy as Chief Operating Officer, Short Haul. The airline's operations will be divided into 3 core functional areas, namely Commercial, Operations and Support Services.

Commenting on the new unit's announcement Encik Ahmad Jauhari said, "This is the beginning of exciting times for our short haul operations and I am confident that the team will strive hard to build up this new business as an important component of the Malaysia Airlines Group and contribute towards the success of our overall goal to make Malaysia Airlines the preferred premium carrier."
