Prague Airport announced Jan-2012 traffic

In January 2012, Prague Airport saw a modest year-on-year decline by 2.6% in passenger traffic.

The airport welcomed a total of 641,073 passengers. With 10,135 aircraft movements, the number of take-offs and landings was down by 7.5%. An overall fall in demand for freight traffic led to the decline of air cargo volumes by 14.1%.The segment of legacy carriers was the only one demonstrating a positive growth by1.5% in terms of passenger volumes.

Low cost airlines posted a decline by 9.5% while charter traffic decreased by 22.6% year-on-year. January 2012 also confirmed the trend from the previous year of increasing share of point-to-point passengers to the detriment of transfer passengers. While the number of local passengers grew by 7.4%, transfer passenger volumes were down by 25.5%.

Flights to the Russian Federation were the most frequented routes, followed by connections to Germany and the UK. The most impressive increase was achieved on services to the United Arab Emirates (+38.7%), Israel (+26.3%) and Russia (+19.0%). The first three positions in terms of destination ranking were occupied by Moscow/Sheremetyevo, Paris/Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt.
