Re: Comments of Aspirus Keweenaw

Recently it was brought to our attention that a new RFP for baseline service to Houghton County Memorial Airport is under consideration. This letter asks you to consider the consequences this amendment would have on our health care organization and other leading employers in the area. As the third largest employer in the Houghton/Keweenaw County region, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital strongly implores the Department of Transportation to amend immediately their request for proposal for baseline essential air service to Houghton County Memorial Airport.

Re: Comments of Michigan Technological University

I agree with you that DOT's current definition for Essential Air Service as two daily round trips (actually only 13 round trips per week) with SF340 equipment to Minneapolis (or another suitable Hub) is flawed.

It is already difficult for our customers to travel to our remote comer of Michigan. Lowering our air service would make it worse. I would like see some service to Detroit but certainly no less than three flights per day to provide ample opportunity for our customers to continue to do business with us. We are already "geographically challenged" and to reduce air service so that we are "transportation limited" would be a step backwards in the growth and prosperity we have fought to achieve.
