Wizz Air carried 11 million passengers in 2011, a growth of 15%
05-Jan-2012 Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced today that it carried over 11 million passengers in 2011, representing 15% growth year on year. Average load factor reached over 84%, in line with previous years.
The airline opened three new operating bases in 2011: Belgrade in Serbia, Vilnius in Lithuania and Tirgu Mures in Romania. Currently, Wizz Air operates from 15 bases and offers over 200 routes across Europe.
The carrier employs 1,500 people in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Lithuania and Switzerland. In addition, the company has created approximately 11,000 jobs in industries that serve or benefit from Wizz Air's operation.
"Despite a challenging macro-economic environment, Wizz Air delivered 15% growth in 2011, one of the highest in the European airline industry.
