Air New Zealand passenger numbers down in Dec-2011, load factor down

Air New Zealand reports (20-Jan-2012) the following traffic highlights in Dec-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 1.3 million, -0.6% year-on-year;
    • Short-haul: 1.1 million, +0.1%;
      • Domestic: 833,000, +0.3%;
      • Tasman/Pacific: 308,000, -0.7%;
    • Long-haul: 173,000, -5.0%;
      • Asia/Japan/UK: 73,000, -3.7%;
      • North America/UK: 100,000, -6.0%;
  • Passenger load factor: 84.4%, -1.9 ppts;
    • Short-haul: 86%, +1.2 ppts;
      • Domestic: 84.2%, -0.2 ppt;
      • Tasman/Pacific: 86.9%, +2.0 ppts;
    • Long-haul: 83.3%, -4.1 ppts;

Air New Zealand: “Group-wide yields for the financial year to date were up 4.4% on the same period last year. Compared to last December year to date Short Haul yields were up 1.9%. Long Haul yields were up by 4.3%. Removing the impact of foreign exchange, Group-wide yields were up 6.1%.” Source: Company statement, 20-Jan-2012.
