Air Rarotonga would 'love' to operate jets 'if we had the traffic to do that'

Air Rarotonga MD Ewan Smith, speaking on CAPA TV, said (08-Aug-2014) the airline would "love" to operate jets "if we had the traffic to do that." Mr Smith said: "For people at our end of the business, we operate one Saab 340 and when you get down to the economics of a small regional turboprop, where the cost of our avionics is the same, the cost of crew is up there at 70% to 80% of your costs on a larger aircraft but you've got a consumer who's expecting point to point jet airfares everywhere and that's the dilemma."
