Air Seychelles to cease operations to Paris, London and Italy from 10-Jan-2012

Air Seychelles announced (28-Dec-2011) plans to cease European services to London, Paris, Rome and Milan from 10-Jan-2012 as the carrier repositions itself as a regional carrier. In 2012, the airline will only operate services to Mauritius and Johannesburg using Boeing 767-300 equipment. The airline plans to acquire either 737-800 or A320 equipment to operate its new regional network which will commence in 2012. Air Seychelles stated it is also in codeshare discussions with Etihad Airways to provide long-haul links from the Seychelles. [more - original PR]

29-Mar-2012IATA’s latest 2012 industry forecast has airlines in the Middle East as the big winners, with the annual profit forecast for the region's airlines revised from USD300 million to USD500 million. It does come with a caveat though: a spike in oil prices could turn the forecast profit into a USD200 million loss for the region’s airlines.
In 2011, airlines in the Middle East reported a combined annual profit of approximately USD1 billion, according to IATA’s estimate. Despite the regional disruptions and spiralling price of oil, passengers in the region kept flying and Middle Eastern carriers increasingly developed their links with the rest of the world.
As they have been for years, financial results for Middle Eastern carriers were unevenly spread across the region.

Air Mauritius to consolidate European destinations while expanding regionally and to Asia
23-Feb-2012Air Mauritius joins fellow Vanilla Islands carriers that are restructuring their operations largely as a result of decreased demand from mainstay European markets undergoing economic turmoil. The Vanilla Islands – comprising La Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles – have already seen restructures from Air Austral in La Reunion, Air Madagascar and Air Seychelles. Air Mauritius’ plan, the last outstanding expected restructure, will see its European presence consolidated while efforts are renewed to expand to the potentially stronger but still nascent Asian market.
