Delta orders additional 37 A321ceo aircraft

Delta Air Lines reached (29-Apr-2016) an agreement with Airbus to acquire 37 additional A321s as part of its efforts to renew its narrowbody fleet. The A321s will replace older-generation aircraft, including the MD-88, and will be delivered concurrently with existing A321 orders through 2019. The aircraft will be powered by CFM56-5B engines, with the order including a five-year material support agreement (MSA) for the CFM56-5B/-7B engines in the Delta fleet. The carrier's CEO Ed Bastian said the A321 order is an "opportunistic fleet move that enables us to produce strong returns and cost-effectively accelerate the retirement of Delta's 116 MD-88s in a capital efficient manner."
