Direct News Source

08-Sep-2009 Bordeaux has become the latest European airport to announce a purpose-built terminal specifically designed to meet the needs of low cost airlines and their passengers.

Opening in May 2010 and costing € 5.5 million, billi is promising carriers turnaround times of less than 25 minutes as part of a simplified service concentrating on efficiency and economy. Offering an affordable gateway to the city of Bordeaux, the new terminal will provide a significant boost to local tourism. And it's not just Bordeaux that stands to gain; from the beautiful Atlantic coastline to the historic Medoc chateaux, from the luscious scenery of the Dordogne to the charms of the Basque country, the whole of Aquitaine will benefit from the visitors that billi will bring to the region.

In keeping with the simple, no-frills nature of low cost flying, billi (the name stands for "Bordeaux illico", which means "Bordeaux straight away") has been designed to make the passenger's experience as simple, reliable and enjoyable as possible, while capturing a creative, free-spirited sense of adventure. This will be reflected in a dynamic branding and advertising campaign featuring a colourful cartoon character promoting the benefits of the new terminal.

Announcing the arrival of billi, Pascal Personne, CEO of Bordeaux Airport said 'Our research highlighted a real need for a product tailored to accommodate the low-cost airlines, a product that would sit alongside our existing regional and international airport products. billi was conceived with the backing of the French Authorities and the key regional stakeholders. We look forward to welcoming many low-cost airlines delivering a growing number of tourists and business travellers to our region'.
