12-Dec-2009 Japan Airlines warmly welcomes the positive conclusion of the Open Skies talk between the United States of America and Japan that was agreed upon today.

"We appreciate the immense efforts put in by authorities of both nations on this issue, and are looking forward to the expansion of passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries from October 2010." said JAL Group president and CEO, Haruka Nishimatsu.

Following the signing of the Open Skies agreement and with the permission from relevant authorities of both governments, American and Japanese carriers will be able to apply for anti-trust immunity (ATI) with each other. This will pave the way for closer cooperation between partner airlines, allowing both to more efficiently plan routes and flight schedules.

JAL intends to apply for ATI with a strategic US partner as soon as possible, so as to seize this opportunity to strengthen our network and bring added benefits to our valued customers.

As JAL prepares to fully utilize the new framework, customers can look forward to greater convenience and improved services.
