Brussels Airport: Security measures for US-bound flights extended

Direct News Source

30-Dec-2009: The heightened security measures for passengers on a direct flight to the USA, which were to apply from 26 to 30 December, will be extended.

This was decided Tuesday afternoon by the National Civil Aviation Security Committee, which is presided by the Belgian Directorate-General for Civil Aviation, in consultation with the various public services involved in aviation security in our country.

Passengers on a direct flight from Brussels to the United States are subject to a double security screening: apart from the usual security screening which applies to all passengers, they will be screened a second time at the gate before boarding.
Moreover, these passengers are allowed only one piece of carry-on baggage.

As a result of these measures, US-bound passengers are requested to present themselves at the check-in desk at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure time.

For passengers travelling to destinations outside the USA, no extra security measures apply.

All airports within the EU implement heightened security measures within the framework of their national legislation to meet the concerns raised by the USA. In January the countries of the European Union will discuss how they can harmonise the measures adopted by the different member states.
