19-Mar-2010 Passengers

In spite of the impact of the winter conditions in various places in Europe and the United States, Brussels Airport welcomed 1,078,521 passengers in February, 4.9% up on the previous corresponding period. Growth is registered in all passenger segments with long haul traffic doing particularly well. The low cost segment (two bankruptcies in 2009) and intra-European traffic recorded the smallest growth.

Cargo

With 35,248 tonnes carried in February, Brucargo is still 8.1% down on the same month last year. Although cargo carried aboard passenger aircraft is growing strongly, full freighter traffic figures are still impacted by the demise of Cargo B in July 2009. Due to a decrease in the number of long-haul flights operated by DHL, integrator traffic too recorded negative growth.

Aircraft movements
The number of aircraft movements dropped by 4.6% to 16,261. This figure reflects the many flights that were cancelled due to the winter conditions, but it also indicates higher load factors on the flights that were carried out. The number of cargo flights was also down on February 2009.
