THAI clarifies increase in domestic airfare

02-Apr-2010 Thai Airways International Public Company Limited provided clarification regarding adjustment in domestic airfare, effective as of 1 April 2010 onwards. The airfare now includes fuel surcharge and insurance surcharge in the ticket price.

Mr. Pruet Boobphakam, Executive Vice President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, said that the Company's domestic airfare was adjusted on an average based on the Department of Civil Aviation's stipulation that airlines may increase airfares within the standard price ceiling established by the Department.

Domestic airfare adjustment was based as follows:

1. The last time THAI adjusted its domestic airfare was on 1 December 2006. The Company has not increased its airfare for the past 3 years and 3 months.

2. Domestic airfare increased by 36.5% after this adjustment

3. During the period 1 December 2006 to 31 March 2010, domestic airfare averaged 4.47 Baht per kilometer. As of 1 April 2010, domestic airfare averages 6.00 Baht per kilometer. This increase is only an average of 1.53 Baht per kilometer on all 11 domestic routes.

4. The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) set the requirement that all commercial air carriers must follow the same standard in calculating distance on each route for establishing airfares. The increased airfares must not exceed the DCA's stipulation. The airfare now includes fuel surcharge and insurance surcharge in the ticket price.
