07-Apr-2010 Travelocity’s Summer Data Report reveals domestic airfare has returned to 2008 prices, with overall airfare averaging $360 round-trip, up nine percent from when compared to last summer.

International airfare is 10 percent higher than summer 2009 and two percent higher than 2008.

"Beyond the great summer hotel deals available, travelers can save up to $525 just by booking their flight and hotel together in a vacation package."

Domestic $360 $330 $362

International $806 $730 $791

Despite increases in airfare, however, there are several top summer destinations where cheap flights are still the norm. Year-over-year airfare is down to Eastern Europe (-5%), Maui (-5%), the Dominican Republic (-4%), and the U.S. Virgin Islands (-2%).

Hotels remain a bargain for summer travel. The hotel deals and rock-bottom prices enjoyed by travelers last summer are still around, with Average Daily Rates (ADR) at domestic hotels slightly lower than summer 2009 and 14 percent lower than prices paid in 2008.

Domestic $144 $145 $167

International $218 $212 $241

The summer's best deals are found on Orlando hotels (-12%), Maui hotels (-21%), New York City hotels (-6%) and Cancun hotels (-10%). Travelers looking for the best hotel deals will want to check out Travelocity's Top Secret Hotels, which offers up to 45 percent off published rates.

"Despite higher airfare, travelers will still enjoy great deals on their summer travel," said Genevieve Shaw Brown, senior editor at Travelocity. "Beyond the great summer hotel deals available, travelers can save up to $525 just by booking their flight and hotel together in a vacation package."
