12-Apr-2010 Melbourne Airport welcomes AirAsia X’s announcement to increase to twice daily services from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur. The increased frequencies will double the current schedule of seven flights per week to fourteen from the beginning of July.

Melbourne Airport Airline Business Manager Carl Jones said the benefits to those planning travel in the South-East Asian region were immense. "These services will allow passengers even greater flexibility on the Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur route at very competitive prices".

Not only will the additional services help bring more people to Victoria, they will also assist those travelling to Kuala Lumpur and beyond, "the AirAsia network continues to grow, and the increased services provide Victorians with greater value and choice of travel options in this region" he said.

AirAsia X's decision recognises the unique advantages of operating out of Melbourne Airport. "We are curfew free allowing for scheduling flexibility, have a single terminal precinct allowing for ease of domestic and international connections, and are in very close proximity to the CBD, which is only a twenty minute bus ride away".

Other recent positive international announcements have included Qatar Airways increasing capacity to daily and V Australia commencing services to Johannesburg following the success of Los Angeles and Phuket. Additionally, the domestic market has seen Tiger Airways commence services to Brisbane and Jetstar increasing services to Cairns earlier this year.
