Ministry of Civil Aviation: Status on flight disruptions due to eruption of volcano in Iceland

16-Apr-2010 Eruption of volcano in Iceland on 15th April, 2010 resulted in formation of cloud of volcanic ash and covered the United Kingdom.

As a result, NATS, the UK's leading Air Navigation Service Provider issued an advisory for airlines not to operate to various airports in UK. Since the cloud of volcanic ash spread thereafter, Euro Control also issued similar advisory for airlines. This has resulted into large scale cancellations of scheduled international flights operating to UK, Europe and North America via Trans-Atlantic route.

As per the statement issued by NATS on 16th April, 2010 at 0230 UTC (0800 IST), the cloud of volcanic ash continues to cover much of the UK and the eruption in Iceland continues. NATS has issued the advisory that restrictions will remain in place in UK controlled airspace until 1900 UTC (0030 hrs on 17th April, 2010).

Eurocontrol has also issued similar advisory for airlines. As per the latest information, the following airspace in Europe has been zero rated until:

Belgium : 16th April (1600Z)

Finland : 16th April (1200Z)

France : 16th April (1200Z)

Germany : 16th April (1200Z)

Netherlands : 16th April (1600Z)

Norway : 16th April (0600Z)

Poland : 16th April (0600Z)

Republic of Ireland : 16th April (1000Z)

Sweden : 16th April (1300Z)

United Kingdom) : 16th April (1200Z)

Following airports in Europe have been zero rated until:

Frankfurt Main : 16th April (1200Z)

Helsinki : 16th April (1200Z)

Guersney : 16th April (1200Z)

Jersey : 16th April (1200Z)

Rouen : 16th April (1200Z)

Barderiy : 16th April (1200Z)

Le Bourge : 16th April (1200Z)

Charles De Gaulle : 16th April (1200Z)

Toussus-le-Noble : 16th April (1200Z)

Jet Airways - Cancelled two flights to UK.

Europe and North America Ops normal

Kingfisher Airlines - Cancelled two flights to UK

16th April, 2010

Air India - Eight flights to UK (03), Europe (03) and

North America (02) were earlier rescheduled after 1400 hrs. Three have been cancelled as of now.

Air India has cancelled all the eight flights to UK, Europe and North America for 17th April, 2010

Jet Airways - All flights to UK and North America via

Brussels which were earlier rescheduled to operate after 1400 hrs have been cancelled

Kingfisher Airlines - Cancelled two flights to UK

Due to cancellation and rescheduling of flights, parking bays at Mumbai and Delhi airports are occupied as per the following details:

IGI Airport, New Delhi - 06 (01 British Airways, 01 Air France, 03 Air India, 01 Air Atlis)

Mumbai - 11 (03 Air India, 03 Jet Airways, 02 British Airways, 01 Air France, 01 Delta and 01 Kingfisher Airlines)

Out of the 11 bays occupied by different aircraft at Mumbai, two are parked on taxiway E1.
