Kenya Airports Authority: Volcanic ash affecting Europe bound flights

19-Apr-2010 The cloud of volcanic ash that has engulfed Iceland has affected most of the flights that are bound to Europe.

Most of the European Airports have closed down their air space due to safety reasons. Consequently operations at Kenya's leading Airport Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Moi International Airport have been interrupted with regards to flights going to Europe as the flights have been grounded awaiting improved conditions in Europe.

The following planes were affected at JKIA - Nairobi

Passenger Aircrafts - have been parked at the remote parking

British Airways

Virgin Atlantic

KLM

Kenya Airways to london

Cargo Aircrafts - have been relocated to Apron 3 at cargo

Martin Air

Air France

Martin Air from Johanesburg

The following planes have been affected in Moi International Airport Mombasa.

Condor air - To Frankfurt

Monarch - To London

Excel Air - To Paris

Euro Cypria - To Warsaw

All above airline have cancelled their flights with Condor Air been grounded at Moi International Airport Apron parking.

The management of Kenya Airports Authority wishes to assure the public that JKIA and MOI Airport are able to comfortably cater for the aircrafts that are currently on the ground, and other Airlines will be able to land and takeoff comfortably. The above mentioned Airlines on their part have taken care of their passengers as stipulated in the International Air Transpiort Association (IATA)
