airBaltic resumes selected flights

20-Apr-2010 The Latvian national airline airBaltic will resume selected East- and South-bound flights scheduled to depart after 9:00 (6:00 UTC) on April 20 as airspace restrictions are lifted in a number of areas.

airBaltic invites passengers to check flight status and destinations served on www.airBaltic.com, airBaltic profile on Facebook and Twitter, as well as with airport information services, before going to the airport. airBaltic serves 80 destinations in Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.

airBaltic warns passengers that the airline may be forced to cancel some of the flights reinstated as airspace restrictions are extended. airBaltic will take every opportunity to assist customers in the airports.

Passengers with confirmed seats on the reinstated flights are invited to departure airports. If free seats become available on the reinstated flights, airBaltic will offer these to families with children, passengers of reduced mobility, senior citizens and holders of Baltic Miles VIP card.

Europe's airlines and airports have established that the revised restrictions on airspace permit the resumption of air services without endangering the safety of operations. Close to 40 non-commercial flights have been undertaken by European airlines in the past days, which revealed no indications of anomalies or irregularities - thus enabling a more detailed analysis of the situation.

airBaltic has introduced special procedures for pilots and technical maintenance. Additional technical checks by certified personnel will be performed after every trip made by aircraft, following recommendations of aircraft manufacturers.

Some flights remain cancelled. Passengers who booked to travel on one of the cancelled flights may choose the next available flight at no extra charge (until May 31, 2010) or apply for a full refund of unused flight(s) tickets at any airBaltic Ticket office, travel agency where original tickets were issued, by calling or sending an e-mail to airBaltic reservation centre.
